Come take part in India's biggest annual Parkour Jam, with three full days of jammage, seminars, talks, and workshops, and the Ultimate Sledgehammer Challenge, brought to you by the Indian Parkour Association, and hosted this year by Parkour Mumbai at their gym.
Anyone who doesn't want to take part in or watch Sledgehammer on Sunday are free to train anywhere within the SAI facility/anywhere else in public, or go sightseeing around the city, etc. So you guys can plan your day accordingly.
If you'd like to opt to have the hosts take care of your accommodation and food for the duration of the Jam, please check the details below. We list out all the specifics of how we will cover this, and the nominal charge you would incur for the same, payable to Parkour Mumbai.
Please note that the Jam will largely happen inside the gym on all
three days, which has no good sources of food nearby. So you'll either
have to arrange for your own food; or make four trips to good sources of
food which are atleast 2-3 kilometers away from the gym throughout the
day; or have your meals along with the rest of the Parkour India
members, as arranged for you by Parkour Mumbai from the SAI Mess. We
will provide four meals during the day. Vegetarian meals available.
Please also note that there are no good hotels available near the gym.
Parkour Mumbai is providing accommodation to people coming to the Jam
from outside Mumbai at the SAI guesthouse, which is located right next
to the gym. The rooms are decent, and bathrooms are clean. Some Parkour
India members have also stayed there before during the National Jam
2010, and will attest to the facility.
There is a hotel available near the gym, where you may be able to get
rooms for two for 1800 bucks a night. But they only give out rooms on
prior bookings. Most other hotels in Mumbai are situated near the
International Airport at Andheri (E), or near Juhu Beach, or in South
Bombay/Colaba, all of which are really far away from the gym, and a pain
to travel from. Especially South Bombay, which is more than an hour
away from the gym.
There is another concentration of cheap hotels that we found recently on
the Western Express Highway between Dahisar and Mira Road to the north
of the gym, if anyone wants to travel by rickshaw back and forth to the
gym.
The gym is located in Kandivali (E), and is listed on Google Maps. You
guys may want to study the map of Mumbai a bit before deciding on
anything.
There are no good sources of food nearby, nor any decent restaurants. Most restaurants are located near Kandivali station on the west side, which is a good 2.5 kilometers away from the gym, and a long walk downhill. There is a Big Bazaar outlet downhill from the gym though, right outside the main-entrance to SAI. Since it's a Mall, it may even have restaurants inside. But we're not sure, since we've never checked inside. You could still get supplies in there.
There is NO COMPULSION to opt for the meals or accommodation provided
by Parkour Mumbai to the Jam attendees, and you are free to arrange for
your own. This is just being provided by Parkour Mumbai for the
convenience of their guests, and the charges are being levied to recover
some of the costs of hosting this huge event. We DO have to pay SAI
in-turn for booking half their facility for three whole days.
But if anyone does not want to worry about their stay, or where they're
gonna get their meals from at the proper times during the three days
that they want to focus exclusively on training, you have an open offer
from us to sign up for staying at the guesthouse, and having your meals
delivered to you from the SAI mess.
If you book your train tickets to Mumbai, then you should be aware
that we have several stations where outstation-trains terminate. Try to
avoid the following stations - LTT (also known as Kurla Terminus or
Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), Kalyan, Panvel, Thane, or Palghar. These are
too far off the way, and you'd spend an additional hour getting to a
common station (Dadar or Borivali), and then another hour getting from
Dadar to the gym. And if you find traffic on the way, you're screwed.
Try aiming for trains starting/terminating at CST (Chatrapati Shivaji
Terminus, or Victoria Terminus, or VT), Dadar, Bandra Terminus,
Borivali, or Mumbai Central. Kandivali Station is easily accessible from
these stations via local trains.
Some outstation trains on the Western Line also halt at Andheri
Station, which is closer to the gym, so you don't have to get down at
Dadar or Mumbai Central up ahead. If you get a train that
stops/terminates at Borivali Station, nothing like it, because it is
just one station away from Kandivali, and pretty close to the gym.
Except for LTT and Bandra Terminus, all our Outstation-Train Railway
stations are connected to our Local-Train railway stations, so it should
be easy to disembark from your train, switch over to the Local-Train
section of the station, and catch a train headed toward Kandivali.
Once you reach Kandivali Station, take the rail-over-bridge and walk over to the 'East' side. Once you get there, either ask your way around to Sports Authority of India and catch a rickshaw, or call up one of the Jam Coordinators listed below for guidance.
The event is semi-private, so prior registrations are necessary. No
admission without registration. You will also need to sign a waiver
before entering the Jam.
There is NO charge to attend the Jam itself.
The Registration process is straightforward. Simply get in touch with
one of the Jam Coordinators listed below, and leave your name and
contact details with them. The Jam Coordinators will in-turn, forward
these details to the Jam Host to confirm your registration.
You will be given the waiver form to sign when you come for the jam.
All minors will need to have the waiver signed by one parent before
coming to the jam. Minors, please print the waiver, and get it signed
before coming to Mumbai.
You can find a copy of the waiver here.
If you choose to avail of our hospitality, please make your payments in favor of Parkour Mumbai, ICICI Bank, Andheri-Mumbai Branch, A/C no: 001105021994 via one of the following listed options.
